Supporting Businesses Amid Council's Special Rate Variation

The Gunnedah Chamber of Commerce acknowledges the Gunnedah Shire Council's recent implementation of a Special Rate Variation (SRV) aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs and ensuring financial sustainability for the region.

While we recognise the necessity of these measures, we are also acutely aware of the challenges they present for local businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises.

Our stance is rooted in balancing the immediate financial pressures on businesses with the long-term benefits that the proposed infrastructure improvements promise. The Chamber is committed to advocating for greater transparency in how the additional revenue is allocated and ensuring these funds prioritise projects that directly benefit the local business community.

Additionally, the Chamber proposes targeted support measures for businesses most affected by the increases. These include flexible payment plans, workshops on financial management, and initiatives that stimulate economic growth, such as "Shop Local" campaigns.

We remain steadfast in fostering open communication with the Council and providing practical resources to empower businesses in navigating these changes.
