Keeping Regional Stories Local.

Collective Media Pty Ltd is a proudly regional media company dedicated to preserving and elevating local journalism across North West New South Wales. Founded by Susie and Mark Slack-Smith, Collective Media was born from a vision to reinvigorate regional storytelling, protect community voices, and ensure the longevity of local news in an evolving media landscape.

In October 2024, Collective Media made a bold and strategic move by acquiring several long-standing regional publications, including the Gunnedah Times, Wee Waa News, and North West Magazine. These acquisitions marked a pivotal moment for media in the region anchoring a commitment to maintain printed, truly local newspapers at a time when many outlets were shifting solely to digital.

Collective Media stands apart by embracing a hybrid model that honours tradition while embracing innovation. Through expanded digital platforms, the company ensures local stories reach broader audiences, while continuing to deliver trusted print editions that remain a vital source of connection and identity for many rural communities.

With a core belief in editorial independence, regional pride, and community-driven journalism, Collective Media champions the issues that matter—from agriculture to small business, events, and grassroots advocacy. The company is also closely linked to Slack-Smith Financial and The Bureau Café, forming part of a wider ecosystem focused on professional engagement and economic development in Tamworth and beyond.

At its heart, Collective Media is about empowering regional Australia to tell its own stories—loudly, proudly, and authentically.
