Gunnedah Pistol Club
Gunnedah Pistol Club was established in 1965 and moved to the persent site at Borthistle Hill, Mullaley Road in 1971.
Target pistol shooting as an Olympic event and is controlled by the international body "ISSF" and nationally by "Pistol Australia". In NSW the organising body is "NSW Amateur Pistol Association". Shooting and licencing is overseen by the NSW Police and Firearms Registry.
Gunnedah Pistol Club has shooting matches every Sunday from 9am.
Annual registration fee is $170 adult, $150 pensioner and $90 junior (12 to 18). Fees include all insurance and use of club pistols. Prospective members must be proposed by two existing members and must be approved by the Committee of the Gunnedah Pistol Club. It is mandatory for members to be approved by NSW Police and Firearms Registry, have no criminal convictions, AVO or DVO within the past ten years, and be of sound mind. Beginners can participate without a firearms licence as long as they are supervised by a qualified instructor and must undergo intensive training with the club before qualifiying to apply for a firearms licence. Instruction includes safety, maintentance of firearms, safety, various matches shot at the club, safety, courses of fire in use in the club and of course, safety.
Pistol shooting is an inclusive sport for people of all ages and levels of skills. It is a particularly good sport for women and disabled people. There are competition levels for all shooters.
